BREEAM
The Beaumont's existing building (Brown Hart Gardens) and new building (Providence Court) both achieve very good BREEAM® ratings. BREEAM® (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is the world's foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings and rewards performance above regulation which delivers environmental, comfort or health benefits.
Clean Innovation
Our previous annual consumption of approximately 32,000 bottle single-use plastic bottles of shampoo, shower gel, hair conditioner and body lotion per year has been eliminated and replaced with large format (300ml) PET 100% recyclable containers , reducing waste related to single use items in terms of (a) less product waste, (b) less cardboard use, (c) less packaging generally and (d) overall energy reduction. The formulations are high performing without animal derivatives, synthetic colours and parabens.
Reduce waste
We aim to reduce waste throughout all the operations, whether food or operational items, or energy & water. LED lights have been retrofitted throughout - according to the Carbon Trust, the resultant annual reduction in CO2, Sulphur Dioxide & Nitrogen Oxide emissions is the equivalent of planting 177.48 acres of forest and removing 124.81 cars from the road. Our hot water is generated by two CHP's, a technology recognised worldwide as a cleaner alternative, reducing CO2 emissions. Solar film has been placed on all windows, reducing energy consumption.
Recycling
All corks are recycled by our partner, Recorked UK. For every cork collected and sold, they donate 10% of the revenue to charitable partners, such as Frank Water, a safe water & sanitation charity. We recycle on average almost 10,000kgs of waste (glass, cardboard, general waste & mixed recyclables) per month, saving an average of 6 tonnes of CO² per month and generating on average 2155 KWH monthly. Our food waste is recycled to produce ReGrow bio-fertiliser for crops in a plant that produces renewable energy and displaces CO² from the atmosphere.
Reduce single-use plastics
Following an extensive audit, we have minimised the use of all single-use plastics throughout the hotel, including packaging materials from suppliers.
This includes plastic straws, cotton buds, sewing kits, stirrers, plastic toothpicks, measuring cups, takeaway coffee cups, cling film and food containers, all of which have been replaced by sustainable alternatives.
Accessibility
Proud winner of the 2016 BBS Award for 'Best Accessible Venue in a Listed Building by Historic England' and winner of the 2017 Blue Badge Best Accessible Hotel, as well as shortlisted for Best Upmarket Hotel in 2019/20 Blue Badge Awards, The Beaumont prides itself on welcoming all and on its accessibility. The hotel has 6 fully accessible rooms and easy, level access to all areas of the hotel, including the Bar, the Colony Grill Room and the Spa.
Food Sourcing
We vary menus according to season. We serve vegetarian and vegan dishes to encourage meatless meals. We keep food waste to a mininum and compost where possible. We are in the process of reviewing all food sourcing to ensure we do so responsibly, taking into account human welfare, animal welfare, deforestation, eco-systems, climate change, business ethics, health & safety and the broader environment. The bee hives on our roof produce enough honey to serve to guests at breakfast throughout the year
Further Initiatives
The Beaumont uses Paint finity 1 whose entire range of paints is water based 1 non-hazardous, low in VOCs and heavy metal free. All used toner and waste toner is recycled. All housekeeping linen - towels/sheets - are changed every two days, reducing energy required to heat water and reducing the amount of soap/chemical pollutants in the water. All fridges and freezers are monitored via TSCAN1 a system that monitors the cooling system to ensure optimum performance. The records are stored online, eliminating the use of paper, and can be retrieved at any time. Kitchen, Pastry and in Room Dining recycle their overproduced food in the staff canteen to ensure it is not wasted.
House Car
Our elegant chauffeur-driven house car - a Bentley Mulsanne V8 - is available on a complimentary basis for the use of hotel guests for all-electric, locally emission-free drop-offs in Mayfair.
Awards
We have been recognised by Green Tourism with a Silver Award and by Preferred Hotels & Resorts with a Certificate of Excellence in its annual GIFTTS Awards (Great Initiatives for Today's and Tomorrow's Society) for our sustainability efforts.
